Construction Booming in Victoria

The Building and Construction Industry has topped the list for full time employment in Victoria with more than 20,000 new jobs created this year.

 

New data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) revealed that jobs in the Building and Construction sector has boomed to 242,900 full time jobs. Overall, its seen the number of full time jobs increase by 9% with score more part time and casual positions also created.

 

Victoria’s construction industry is still going very strong with a number of projects in the pipeline such as the West Gate Tunnel, the Melbourne Metro Project and more level crossing removals. The housing boom is also still going strong on the back of the biggest population boom since Victoria’s gold rush.

 

Last year more than 127,000 people added to the State Population and there is no slow-down in sight. More than 2.2 million homes are required by 2051. In addition to new homes, there is also strong demand for general commercial and residential apartments, aged-care and education facilities.

 

According to the Hays Quarterly Report Oct-Dec 2017, there are many job opportunities available for those in the Building and Construction sector with a need for skilled tradespeople, estimators, contract administrators and project managers.
